A couple of weeks ago, I came across an addon for Skype called vSkype which enables you to have video conferencing across the Skype network. I have since read mixed reviews about it, and there are rumours that it sends unsolicited messages to all your contacts. The CEO has fervently denied this, but you have to wonder what is going on when one of the Skype developers themselves claims to have witnessed it.
Another kid on the block Video4Skype is a similar program, and whilst it doesn't look as pretty as vSkype, it appears to do much the same job, with the exception of conferencing. As yet, Video 4Skype only allows connection to one contact at a time. Also, there are rumours because this add on is owned by a big company, that there will come a time when you will be charged for this service, though nothing has been confirmed or denied at this point.
Neither of these products are endorsed by Skype and there seems to be no video plug-in offering on the horizon from Skype themselves.
I'd be interested to hear from readers what their experiences have been for either of these programs.
